In real life teleportation is possible and occurs in nature all the time. But the teleportation that scientists are currently doing are not what you would first think of when considering teleportation, I will explain in a minute, I would also just like to say that teleportation is not against the laws of physics and is only discredited by the uncertainty principle that states that as you can deconstruct and move atoms and by turning it into information, it is rather difficult to put them in the same order as before they were transmitted. So even though teleportation is possible and going on as we speak it will be a while before us or even basic molecules will be able to be sent to Mars instantaneously, and after what I'm about to say you may not even want to and just choose to take the bus. The teleportation that is currently going on in science labs all across the world is based on moving information and not the matter itself. So when pondering about teleportation the average person would think that their entire being would zoom across the universe nearly instantly ,I'm afraid that's not the case, in actuality the matter itself isn't transmitted only the information is, and that is what gets teleported, and that matter even though it wasn't teleported losses all of it's properties but is recreated on the other side as an exact copy without flaw. Don't get me wrong though that's doesn't mean that matter itself can't be teleported (Electrons in nature do it all the time, they teleport their entire selves all across the the universe while taking the information and matter with them too) we just aren't advanced enough at the current time to do that though ,what nature has already perfected.
And this brings up a moral dilemma as well, if you decide to teleport to, let's say, the movies, while teleporting you die even though their is an exact copy of yourself at the movies with the same memories, same knowledge, and same flaws they are not you, you have died. So what does this mean if that is not you but a copy (a replica) what happened to you? The moral and ethical implications of this technology is great to say the least. To live forever, to die every time you use it, and also the your loved ones are they the same person or just a copy?

Currently, teleportation is only available in Science fiction movies and books.
The truth is, teleportation is currently not possible in real life. The concept of teleportation is an incredibly abstract concept. To deconstuct a person and rebuild them instantaniously in a different place is proved by physics to be impossible. Nothing, not even light travels instantly. How can you even build a single cell particle by particle. Even a single cell is incredibly complex. As for teleporting a person as a whole. That is proven to be impossible. A person cannot just vanish and reappear somewhere else. Teleportation may happen in the future, but the chance is high that it is not possible.

I am here to suggest another type of teleportation. The kind which we see used in the hit Sci-Fi film, "Jumper", in which a young man named David Rice is forced to discover his hidden abilities to "jump" or teleport to any known location as long as he can visualize himself standing there (i.e. sights, sounds, envoirnment, etc.)

David's form of teleportation is explained in greater detail as seen in the hit book (taking place after the film) "Reflex" in which David is captured by a secret organization who wish to use his powers for hteir own gain. EXPLANATION HERE: It is later explained in the book that David isn't simply breaking apart his molecules, one by one, and reapearing somewherelse, but actually- he's able to rip open wormholes (known as "JumpScars" in the the film)and can pass through them to any other location. Details below:

First our "Jumper" will close his/her eyes and recall any area they have been to in the past, lets say ... New York County General Hospital. The air around the "Jumper" then compresess. It is still unclear how the "JumpScar" is formed, possibly though some mental/genetic power, that's where it gets tricky. Next, our "Jumper" is sucked into the "JumpScar" and is shot to the other side, like a tunnel, discovered when David (in "Reflex") teleports from a tub containing water to another containing nothing (About a qaurter of the water went with David). Another test, which has David teleporting from a warm room to a much cooler room with heat/cold seeking cameras in the opposite room, shows that the water from the prevous test wasnt "sticking" to David, but was merely flowing through the tunnel around him.

Through this method i believe we can eliminate the whole morals/ethics problem as seen in the last answer, because using this our "Jumper" does not die ... unless ofcoarse Roland's waiting on the other side with his army! (Just kidding, but seriously), all you need is a machine that can tear open wormholes (Like the machines Roland's army uses in "Jumper" to keep them open), connect them to other machines anywhere else in the world, and can safely send biological matter (humans ) and VIOLA, we have the very first, real live, "Jumper"!!!!!

Personally, i don't think humans (atleast is my life time) will be able to create a portable teleportation device (i.e. whipping out your I-phone and selecting the "I-Time Travel" App.) but may build stationary machines in important areas (hospitals, police/fire dept., schools, work locations, etc.) and may also be used to travel long distances for a vacation to the Bahama's! But who knows, maybe one day we'll all see a commercial for Apple's new
I-port. Chew on that for a while!

The uncertainity principal doesn't allow to teleport anything, it only prevents us from knowing exact state of an object. It will not be useful for us in anyway since the measurement process distroys the quantum state of an object and we get exact measurement - in the case of teleportation it will be the location. It's not possible to prepare an object and wait for it to gain uncertain location. Besides, even if thet happens the location will become uncertain and that's not the point of teleportation - the destination location needs to be exact.

About the movie 'Jumper'. First of all, that's not the teleportation if it uses warmholes. Second of all, existence of warmholes has not been proven. The very fact that something is allowed by the laws of physics doesn't make it exist in the universe. And the last thing: even if warmholes do exist the energy to create them, and most of all control them is beyond anything that we can achieve on Earth. The energy required to create even the smallest warmhole would definetely rip the Earth apart.

PLEASE LOOK AT MY ANSWER!!!: Yes teleportation is possible. There is something called hyperspace (4D). If you send an object to hyperspace where one million years equals a nano second and make it move than recall it, you have moved something without moving it in our dimension. One problem. at the moment scientists can only move a cell to hyperspace and recall it. So it will be very long before you can send a grain of salt to 4D
